Potted lilies: for outdoors and indoors
The majestic blooms of lilies create an elegant look, whether on the balcony, terrace, or indoors. The variety of colors, from pure white and creamy yellow to deep red and purple, make them a great match for any style and taste. With their compact growth habit, potted lilies are perfect for use outdoors and indoors.
The right pot
For outdoor use, a nice ornamental pot with good drainage holes to prevent excess water from accumulating works well. For use indoors, choose an ornamental pot that matches the style of your interior.
The best spot
Lilies love warmth and need light to flower properly. That is why it is best to put them in a sunny spot on your balcony or terrace. Indoors, put the potted lily in your windowsill, for example, or another place that gets plenty of sunshine.
Watering
Keep the lily’s potting soil slightly moist, but avoid drenching the soil. Let the top layer of soil dry out a little between watering sessions. Make sure there is no water in the decorative pot.
Support
Some lily varieties are a little taller, so they may need some support as they grow. Put supports or sticks in the pot to keep the stems growing straight.
The scent of lilies
Although many people appreciate the scent of lilies, some people may be sensitive to the flowers’ scent. If that is the case, (temporarily) put the lilies in a well-ventilated area.
Protection from the wind
Shelter your lilies if your balcony or terrace is windy, to prevent the lilies from being blown over.
