A gorgeous bouquet of bulb flowers

Bulb flowers are perfect for creating lovely mixed bouquets. They’re widely available, so go all out and bring spring into your home with surprising bouquets.

Springtime feeling

Bulb flowers are cut flowers that grow from a bulb or corm, such as tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinths, and hyacinths. Lesser-known varieties such as ornamental onions, snake’s head fritillaries, and anemones also lend themselves well to flower arranging. You can use the fantastic variety of colors, shapes, and heights to create lavish bouquets. Choose a matching vase to complete the spring feeling!

Preparation

If it is cold outside, first put your flowers in a cooler spot, such as the hallway or shed, for a few hours when you get home. This enables them to get used to the room temperature slowly. Because daffodils and hyacinths release a substance that makes other flowers wilt faster, place each of these varieties separately in water for a few hours after trimming the stems. You can then arrange them with other flowers in a new vase with fresh water.

Getting started

  • Fill a clean vase with cold water.
  • Use a sharp knife to trim the stems at an angle.
  • Remove any lower leaves so they do not get into the water.
  • Arrange the flowers to your liking.
  • The stems need a bit of space, so use several vases if necessary.
  • Add (flowering) branches or ornamental grasses if necessary.

To keep them beautiful for longer

  • Do not put the bouquet in direct sunlight, near the heating, or near fruit.
  • Regularly trim the stems and replace the water.
  • Remove wilted flowers from the bouquet; some flowers last longer than others.
  • Tulips can continue to grow in the vase; add a small branch for support or trim them a little shorter if you think they are too long.
